Whitecliffs Talking Newspaper
Each week a skilled team of volunteers, reads selected articles of new, events and essential information from the local newspapers - East Kent Mercury, Dover Mercury and Dover Express.
A USB stick is included in the post free bag which is sent out weekly to visually impaired listeners. All you need to listen is a computer or USB player.
It also includes interviews with interesting people from all walks of life, and articles from country and other magazines. The USB stick is recorded in a dedicated studio in Deal, by members of the Whitecliffs Talking Newspaper volunteer team of readers, editors and recording engineers. The finished article is then sent to the Kent Association for the Blind in Maidstone where it is duplicated. Around 300 people currently receive the recordings.
The second recording entitled the Talking Magazine is produced by different teams of people around Kent each week and includes a wide selection of stories, serials and interviews.
The service is free to anybody in the Dover, Deal or Sandwich area, and surrounding villages, who has trouble reading newsprint. If you or somebody you know could benefit from this service please contact us.
